Once Upon a Time, We Were There Organization is a youth-led organization bringing together passionate teenagers and young adults from different higher learning institutions and communities across Kenya.
Driven by compassion, community service, and a desire to uplift vulnerable children, youth, and families, we are committed to being present where support is needed most, especially in underserved communities. Our work includes mentorship and education, sanitary care and menstrual health support, donations, humanitarian assistance, talent development, empowerment programs, environmental conservation, and community outreach.
Our name, “Once Upon a Time, We Were There,” reflects our connection to the communities we serve. Many of us have seen, experienced, or grown up around challenges that affect children, young people, and families. We remember where we came from, and that memory inspires us to return, serve, and create opportunities for others. We were there, and now, we are here to make a difference.
Through our work, we seek to restore hope and remind every child and young person that they are seen, valued, and capable of becoming more. We believe that meaningful change does not always begin with something big, sometimes, it begins with simply choosing to care.

To promote inclusive community development by providing mentorship, educational support, dignity-centered sanitary care, protection from sexual violence, and empowerment programs for children, youth, and families in Mathare.
We engage diverse community members through active participation, volunteerism, and partnerships to create safe, healthy, and hopeful living environments.

OUT Organization empowers children, youth, vulnerable families, and communities across Kenya through education, health and dignity support, humanitarian assistance, environmental conservation, talent development, and community outreach.
OUT Organization supports children from vulnerable families through school mentorship, educational guidance, and learning materials, helping learners stay motivated, develop their potential, and pursue their educational goals.
OUT Organization promotes reproductive health awareness and provides sanitary pads to girls and young women, supporting dignity, confidence, menstrual health, and healthy development.
OUT Organization creates awareness on sexual health, safety, and protection, helping children, young people, and families understand their rights and make informed and safer choices.
OUT Organization engages communities and creates opportunities for young people to discover, develop, and showcase their talents through sports, creative arts, leadership, and community activities.
OUT Organization provides feeding support and humanitarian assistance to vulnerable children, families, and people experiencing difficult living conditions, helping meet essential needs with compassion and dignity.
OUT Organization visits orphanages and reaches vulnerable families with encouragement, essential support, and meaningful community outreach that brings hope and strengthens connections.
OUT Organization promotes environmental responsibility through conservation activities, community awareness, tree planting, clean-up initiatives, and actions that help protect our environment for future generations.
OUT Organization keeps usable school uniforms in circulation by collecting, assessing, restoring, matching, and redistributing them to students who need them.

December 2025 – July 2026OUT Organization reached 516 learners through school mentorship initiatives, providing encouragement, guidance, personal development, and educational support.
OUT Organization visited an orphanage and provided food and meaningful support to 76 people, sharing care, encouragement, and compassion.
Through the OUT Organization Feed the Streets initiative, we provided food to 317 people living on the streets, responding to immediate needs with dignity and compassion.
